In an October 2026 interview with Variety, 50 Cent said his grandmother helped him understand that a woman he’d known as his mother Sabrina Jackson’s friend had been her partner. Sabrina was murdered when he was 8, and he learned about her sexuality after her death.

“As a child, I just saw two women hanging out. My grandmother informed me later that there was more going on and they weren’t just friends, and I was like, ‘Oh! Now I know what that was!’” he said. “I’m not ashamed of that in any way. I grew up around that.”
The 51-year-old rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, also addressed his mother’s sexuality in his verse on The Game’s 2005 song “Hate It or Love It.” He described writing about it as an act of vulnerability.
He’s developing a documentary about his life that will revisit losing his mother. He said he didn’t know his father and struggled to understand that she wasn’t coming home: “I was like, ‘No, she’s going to come back.’ I couldn’t even process it at that point.” After her death, he stayed with his grandmother.
