SNL UK’s Ania Magliano on Shane Gillis’s F-Bomb: “Oh, Shane, You’re Not Allowed to Say That”

SNL UK’s Ania Magliano aimed an intentional, uncensored insult at Shane Gillis on the October 17 Weekend Update, a week after his accidental F-bomb on the American show. She scolded him for swearing, then called him a “stupid f*****g c*nt,” and the stronger language aired live, as intended.

Ania Magliano said, “Oh, Shane, you’re not allowed to say that”.

The anchor had already taken aim at his monologue about women’s gym clothes. She said the shorts “protect women from being up-skirted” but leave them “vulnerable to something much worse,” with Gillis’s monologue photo accompanying the joke.

Then she turned to his live-TV slip, scolding him for swearing before the insult.

Gillis’s accident happened during the October 10 “Green Eggs and Ham” sketch. After saying “fucking,” he covered his mouth and exclaimed, “Jeez!” Mikey Day, staying in character, called him “a loser” who “said a bad word.”

Gillis said “sorry about earlier” as the sketch ended and apologized again at the curtain call. Those apologies concerned the swear. His separate monologue about women dressing “like whores” at the gym had also drawn criticism.

The accidental profanity made it through the live broadcast and stream. Social clips muted it, and Peacock kept it audible.

Magliano’s broadcast operated under different rules. SNL UK airs at 10 p.m., after Britain’s 9 p.m. watershed, and NBC’s standards prohibit the stronger language she used.
