Brandon Flowers on Rock Music: “It’s Almost Dying. We’re Living in a Post-Rock World.”

Brandon Flowers thinks rock’s decline has something to do with how quickly musicians can put their work out into the world. The Killers frontman, 45, called it a “post-rock world” while discussing his move into country with his solo album Thrasher, in a Pollstar cover story published Oct. 13, 2026.

Asked by Pollstar whether rock was in a better place than when he started, Flowers said: “No. It’s almost dying. We’re living in a post-rock world. I don’t think it’s going to ever die, but we’re past it.”

His concern is that easy access to making and releasing music leaves too little time for artists to develop. He urged musicians to sharpen their work and play live before releasing it: “You’ve got to hone what you’re doing and make sure that it’s good enough, get out there and play, and know what it feels like to have something be great or have something suck instead of just releasing things.”

Flowers also said there’s another country record to follow Thrasher. “We made two records in Nashville,” he said. “We’re putting the feelers out there and doing these shows and seeing how they go. It’s just taking it one day at a time.”
