Jason Sudeikis says keeping his feelings to himself prolonged the problems he needed to address during his relationship with former fiancée Olivia Wilde. “I could have communicated better with how I felt, how things were making me feel (and) how things make me feel,” he said on the Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso podcast.
The remarks came on the episode released Sunday, October 18, 2026. Looking back on their 2011-2020 relationship, the Ted Lasso star said he’s learned that expecting a partner to read his mind was unfair.

“If I’m feeling a certain way and I don’t talk about it, that doesn’t make it go away,” he said.
Sudeikis, 51, described communication as a lesson that extends to work, too, whether he’s dealing with a partner, a boss at Saturday Night Live or a television producer. He also said understanding his heartbreak took time.

“It’s the old equation of heartbreak, or any variation of it, takes half as long as the process itself… to get over something, so if it were a 10-year relationship, five years would be 20/20,” he said.
He praised Wilde’s filmmaking, calling her “very good” at her job. “I’m thrilled for her, and I feel very fortunate doing what I’m supposed to be doing,” he said, adding that his experience has helped him recognize when others are going through something similar.
The former couple share son Otis, 12, and daughter Daisy, 10. Earlier in 2026, Sudeikis said he was single and explained how parenting shapes his approach to relationships.
On the Friends Keep Secrets podcast, he said dating multiple people feels “daunting and overwhelming, especially with being a parent.” He also made clear where a potential partner would fit in his life.
“There’s also a new thing of anybody I’m dating that they are never number one on the call sheet, as the showbiz saying would go, like the kids are.”
