“I can take a lot, but one thing I will not stand is any question about where my heart is when I’m on the stage,” Miley Cyrus said after criticism of her Hollywood Bowl show.
Cyrus addressed a video questioning her commitment to her Hollywood Bowl performance when she returned to the Los Angeles venue on October 18. The criticism focused on her October 16 show, her first concert in 4 years, and accused her of failing to sing every word or stay fully engaged.
Cyrus, 33, called the commentary “clickbait” and told the audience: “I’ve never heard that I don’t put my heart into something.”

She explained that performing takes more effort now, and that she’d nearly let fear keep her from returning to the stage. The 2 Hollywood Bowl dates gave her a chance to explore what she’s comfortable doing after time away.
“It is hard for me to stand up here and do this show,” she said. “Because, like all of us, we change, we evolve, we grow, and we find what gets to come with us. What continues to fit.”
Cyrus also reflected on the years when controversy had been fun for her. “I actually used to live my life pretty hard. Because life’s hard so I thought I had to get hard,” she said. “But, you know, I didn’t enjoy my life as much when I was living hard. I love pouring myself into something.”
She made her position on the performance clear: “I can take a lot, but one thing I will not stand is any question about where my heart is when I’m on the stage. Not one. I am fully present.”
During “Bass Persuades,” she also joked about the complaint: “Oh I forgot, I’m supposed to sing every f****** word.”
