Selena Gomez is urging people to avoid vaping after saying her own heavy nicotine use left her voice permanently changed. “I’m not gonna be able to change my voice. I vaped nicotine a lot,” Gomez said in an Instagram Story on October 18.
In that same Story, the 34-year-old singer and Only Murders in the Building star also spoke about how hard it’s been to quit.

“Nicotine is so hard to quit, and I think I just wanted to say, if you’re going through it or if you’re even trying to vape, it’s just not worth it,” she said.
She called her decision to vape “so stupid” and addressed people who dislike how she sounds: “So if you guys don’t like listening to my voice, that’s totally understandable. I don’t mind. Just don’t listen to it.”
Gomez described quitting as “really hard” and said she’s trying to stay away from nicotine. “I just hope I can keep it up. If you are going through something, you can get through it too.”
She’d previously discussed changes to her voice during an Instagram Live in December 2025. Gomez, who has lupus, said at the time: “Sometimes things happen. I get weird. My throat kind of swells inside sometimes. That’s all.”
