Inde Navarrette sent multiple audition tapes for Heat 2 over roughly 2 months, starting in April, and says she never received an offer. She was responding to rumors that she’d turned the sequel down.
The 25-year-old actress has been cast as Rogue in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men movie.
On The Kyle Buchanan Show podcast, Navarrette said the audition process eventually stopped being a conversation. She didn’t know whether the part had been cast.
“I remember I sent in multiple self tapes, different self tapes. I was like, ‘What do you like? What do you not like?’” she said. She would’ve welcomed even a small role in the follow-up to the 1995 crime film: “I just wanted to learn. Definitely didn’t say no.”
Her breakout in the horror hit Obsession and her move into the X-Men franchise haven’t insulated her from audition disappointments. “That’s one of those opportunities where no matter how big you get, you’re still gonna get told no,” she said.
Playing Rogue does fulfill another ambition: taking on an action role. “I’ve always wanted to take part in that sort of a thing,” Navarrette said.
She grew up loving the X-Men movies and Anna Paquin’s performance as Rogue, a character Paquin played in the Fox films from 2000 to 2014.
