A man died Saturday afternoon after entering an Amur tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster, England. South Yorkshire Police were called at 1:35 p.m.; medical personnel tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. He hasn’t been named.
Carole Baskin, who became famous in Netflix’s 2020 series Tiger King, told the New York Post the tiger shouldn’t be blamed. “I am relieved to hear that the animal was not harmed,” she said, adding that she hopes the “terrible loss will lead to meaningful reflection about our relationship with wild animals.”

“We don’t yet know all the circumstances that led to this man’s death, and it would be wrong to speculate,” the Big Cat Rescue CEO said. “What we do know is that a tiger is a powerful wild predator, and no amount of captivity, training, or familiarity can change that.”
Baskin extended her condolences to the man’s family and to the two people who witnessed it.

South Yorkshire Police said rumours that the tiger had been put down were false. It was uninjured, stayed in its enclosure and posed no wider risk to the public. A park insider told regional newspapers the shots keepers fired into the air were meant to draw the tiger away; they weren’t aimed at the animal.
The park activated emergency procedures and evacuated visitors. It stayed closed Sunday, October 11.
One visitor, who gave her name as Alice, told LADbible the scene “felt chaotic,” describing accounts of a young man climbing the fence into the enclosure. Police are urging people not to share footage after distressing videos began circulating online.
