Dakota Johnson on Testing a Vibrating Hairbrush with Anne Hathaway: “The Way to Test a Vibrator Is to Put It on the End of Your Nose”

Dakota Johnson put a vibrating hairbrush to her nose while testing viral TikTok beauty trends with Anne Hathaway in a video Allure released on October 1. Her method: “The way to test a vibrator is to put it on the end of your nose.” She decided “Oh, that’s too strong,” then reconsidered: “Hold on, I kind of like it.”

The video, titled “Anne Hathaway & Dakota Johnson React to TikTok Trends,” was released as the pair promoted Verity, the erotic thriller adapted from Colleen Hoover’s novel, with Hathaway as Verity Crawford and Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh. The film premiered in London on September 24 and opened in the US on October 2.

Hair Vibes pairs a hairbrush with a vibrator and offers 12 modes; it costs $29.95 and comes from Colorado’s On the QT Co. Hathaway clocked it immediately, joking “or if you have neck tension in your vagina” before landing on “It’s orgasm.” They named the vibrating hairbrush “a clear winner” and the kind of white-elephant gift that would get stolen “again and again.”

The exchange fit a familiar register for Johnson, who has used vibrators on her face before. She’s a co-creative director and investor in the sexual-wellness brand Maude, and in a Vanity Fair cover story dated June 28, 2022, she described using 1 of its vibrators on her face that morning as a “makeshift lymphatic drainage massager.” Her stylist chimed in, “I use her vibrator,” and Johnson confirmed, “My personal one.”

She told Vogue Australia she uses Maude’s Drop massager on her face every morning: “In the morning, people wash their faces and I use a vibrator on my face… And it can give you an orgasm!”

In the Allure video, Johnson said she doesn’t even have TikTok. Hathaway, pregnant with her third child, said her FYP is “third-trimester pregnancy advice” and “videos about melted cheese,” calling that “my life.” In the same video she said of pregnancy, “This is my third time making it through.” British Vogue reported that Hathaway announced she was pregnant with her third child on social media on June 19, 2026, captioned “x Baby, I’m yours x.”
