Daniel Radcliffe tried a small test when a Harry Potter DVD he’d been asked to sign spent a few days on his kitchen table: he asked his son who was on the cover. His son didn’t recognize him, and Radcliffe was happy to leave it that way.

“For as long as I can just be his dad, and he won’t know me as anything else, I will maintain that for as long as I can,” he said in a February 2026 interview while promoting his Broadway return in Every Brilliant Thing.

A TV appearance proved just as puzzling. In an anecdote Radcliffe shared in May 2026, he’d been watching the Olympics with his longtime partner, actress Erin Darke. After he stepped out, an Every Brilliant Thing commercial featuring him came on.

Their son said, “Dada?” followed by “Did he leave?” Radcliffe described a child still trying to understand how Dad could leave the room and turn up on television.

The couple’s son was born in April 2023. They haven’t publicly shared his name, and Radcliffe’s happy to let him discover Harry Potter at his own pace. He’d read the books with him if he showed interest, but he doesn’t plan to push him toward them.

Radcliffe played Harry in all 8 films, released from 2001 to 2011. He’d prefer his son to watch HBO’s new adaptation, with someone else playing the character.

In March 2026, he explained: “I feel like watching it with your dad would be less cool. It would take you out of it.”
