Elizabeth Holmes was already facing federal fraud charges when Billy Evans proposed in August 2018 with a silver snake ring from a Taylor Swift concert. After attending a show on Swift’s Reputation tour, Evans got down on 1 knee with the ring he’d bought at the merch stand.

Their relationship had begun as Theranos was unraveling. Holmes and Evans met at a Fleet Week charity party in San Francisco on October 7, 2017. He said they talked for hours, and she gave him her personal number on the back of a Theranos business card.

They spent roughly 6 months as friends. Evans said the coverage of Holmes and Theranos made him hesitant to date her, but they became a couple in spring 2018.

The SEC charged Holmes and Theranos that March; her federal criminal indictment followed in June. By their August engagement, the company was shutting down.

Holmes and Evans haven’t legally married. She’s described their bond as “more than a piece of paper.”

They have 2 children: William, born in 2021, and Invicta, born in early 2023. Holmes is serving her prison sentence.
