Khloé Kardashian keeps helping care for Tristan Thompson’s younger brother Amari because of a promise she made to Tristan’s late mother, Andrea, not because of where things stand with Tristan.
Khloé, 42, dated Tristan from 2016 to 2021 and shares two children with him. She met his family nearly a decade ago and grew close to Andrea, helping her find doctors and sitting in on Amari’s medical appointments.

Amari, 19, has Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a severe epilepsy that leaves him unable to walk or talk and causes several seizures a day. Andrea had been his sole caretaker in Canada. After she died of a sudden heart attack on January 5, 2023, Khloé, Tristan, and her family brought Amari to the United States.
Amari now lives in Los Angeles with Khloé and two full-time caretakers. Because Tristan’s NBA schedule keeps him traveling, Khloé said she chose to take him in rather than put him on constant flights.
She explained the decision on the July 30, 2025 episode of her podcast, Khloé in Wonder Land, saying her commitment to Andrea has nothing to do with Tristan. “Amari deserves someone who will be there for him, take care of him, provide a great lifestyle for him,” she said, adding that he “deserves my love and care, regardless of where me and Tristan stand.”
