On The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show, Selma Blair said alcohol was once “the one thing that took away my nerve pain,” long before she knew multiple sclerosis was the reason she hurt.

The episode posted around Oct. 20, and she was describing years of drinking before she got sober, not the Delta flight that led to her Oct. 11 arrest.

Blair, 54, said she turned to alcohol “even as a very young girl,” using it for headaches, to calm down, and “in times of distress.” She said she was “drinking just to feel better.”

It knocked her out so she could sleep, then she’d wake a few hours later “wishing your life was over,” tired and depressed.

The relief never held. “One glass isn’t enough; two glasses isn’t great. Three’s better, four is horrible,” she said, and by five she was “just depressive.” She knew it “wasn’t going to lead me to the right place.”

Blair went public with her MS in 2018. She has said a lot was missed for decades, and that childhood headaches, numbness, and nerve pain she now reads as MS symptoms were what she was really medicating.

McCarthy compared drinking while managing an autoimmune disease to “drinking toxic sludge.”

She doesn’t drink now. “I don’t live like a sober sober lifestyle with AA, but drinking, no, I cannot do,” she said. “I’m still a human being, but I recognize that alcohol is not good medicine for me.”
