Trina Parks says Sydney Sweeney would fit a modern Bond film, praising the actress’s independence and control over her sexuality as qualities that would suit a woman opposite James Bond.

“Sydney would do a wonderful job.” — Trina Parks

Parks played assassin Thumper alongside Sean Connery in 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever, becoming the franchise’s first Black Bond girl.

She praised Sweeney’s acting range and screen presence: “Not only is she a talented actress, but has this Hollywood classic kind of style and poise, which really works for her projects and brand.”

Her endorsement also reflects what she thinks the franchise needs next. “I feel for modern cinema and film-making and the future of Bond, audiences want to see a woman opposite Bond who is independent and has ownership of her sexuality. Sydney has those qualities.”

Parks has previously praised Bond’s casting of Black actors and women of colour, pointing to Naomie Harris as Miss Moneypenny and Jeffrey Wright as Felix Leiter.

Her comments are an endorsement of Sweeney for a potential role. Amazon MGM has taken over the franchise, which is preparing for a new lead after Daniel Craig’s departure following 2021’s No Time to Die.
