Adwoa Aboah values having a friend who understands the work behind her career. With Emily Ratajkowski, she can talk through the business with someone who works in it too.

“To have a friend like Emily, who is in the same business, is even more important,” Aboah said. “We can talk shop. We can discuss things. We’re really honest with each other.”

Aboah, 34, and Ratajkowski, 35, also appeared in Lena Dunham’s Netflix romantic comedy series Too Much. Aboah says the friendships she’s formed in her late 20s and 30s have become especially important to her.

That support sits alongside a career she’s often too busy doing to dwell on how others describe it. Asked about being called a supermodel, she said: “I’m really just grafting, you know? I’m too involved in the actual work to think about the label.”

She feels content and enjoys work that challenges her, but says she could give herself more time to appreciate what she’s achieved before pursuing another goal.
“I should spend a little bit more time sitting in the accomplishments,” she said.
