Selena Gomez says she and Demi Lovato crashed a stranger’s prom after the 2009 premiere of Princess Protection Program. They had just attended the Disney premiere when they decided to join a prom they remembered taking place nearby.
Their Disney careers had meant missing out on the experience themselves.
The memory came up in Rare Beauty’s Life in Selfies video for their joint Still Making Each Other Blush campaign. Looking back at a red-carpet picture, Lovato asked Gomez, “Do you remember we crashed a prom after that night?”
Gomez said she’d “totally forgot that.” Lovato remembered the location a little less precisely: “There was a prom next door or something and we decided to crash it.”
“We wanted to go to prom so we intruded on someone else’s prom,” Gomez said. Lovato joked, “I’m sure we made their day.”
Lovato eventually got a prom of her own. In 2010, she went with her friend Nolan Nardecchia, honoring a promise they’d made in kindergarten.
Gomez and Lovato met at 7 on Barney. Reflecting on their friendship as they teamed up for the Rare Beauty campaign, Lovato said they’ve gone through stretches without being in constant contact: “But Selena is someone that I’ve always loved and adored. It’s really great to be in a place today where we can collaborate on things, but also just hang out and spend time together.”
