Jennifer Lawrence threw up the Hunger Games three-finger salute on a New York sidewalk Tuesday morning, then posted a photo of herself to her Instagram story with the words, “Midterms BB. Don’t forget who burns with us.”
Voters went to the polls on Election Day, November 3, when all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats were on the ballot. Lawrence, who played Katniss Everdeen across four Hunger Games films, didn’t name a party, a candidate or Donald Trump in the post.

The salute belongs to Katniss. In the story it means thanks, admiration, and goodbye to someone you love, and real-world protesters in Thailand and Myanmar adopted it after military coups. The burning line nods to Mockingjay’s “if we burn, you burn with us.”
Her timing lands between two returns to the role. On the October 28 episode of Call Her Daddy she confirmed she’s back as Katniss in Sunrise on the Reaping, out November 20, calling the reunion with Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson “unbelievable” and “so emotional.”
A year ago she sounded more cautious about speaking up. In a November 2025 New York Times interview she said celebrities “do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for,” and that she wasn’t sure she should keep talking about Trump.
