Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley are reuniting for Hulu’s adaptation of Aggie Blum Thompson’s You Deserve to Know, landing on opposite sides of a murder investigation. Deadline first reported the casting on June 25, 2026.
Dobrev and Wesley played Elena and Stefan on The Vampire Diaries. Dobrev now plays Gwen and Wesley plays Scott, neighbors pulled apart as a killing upends their suburban street.
Thompson’s 2025 novel, published by Forge, follows East Bethesda neighbors Gwen, Aimee and Lisa until Gwen’s husband, Anton, is murdered after a Friday dinner. In the book, Scott is Aimee’s husband and among the last to see Anton alive.
Both actors also executive produce. Wesley wrote on Instagram that he was “Thrilled to be partnering again with @nina both on screen and as executive producers,” and Dobrev said they “fell in love with this novel.”
The two first starred together when The Vampire Diaries premiered in 2009. Dobrev left after season six and returned for the 2017 finale, while Wesley stayed for the full eight-season run.
Brian Tanen, a co-showrunner on Hulu’s Love, Victor, is adapting the book. No premiere date has been announced.
